A likeable onery old fart. A rare breed not often seen. I feel sad at his passing.

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
Sad to hear another brave Brother has gone

Sad news to wake up to - but he had a good innings all things considered. Those who met Bill have some great memories, for sure!

May you rest in peace 'wild bill'. So sad he didn't quite see the 70th anniversary for Normandy.

"Much that once was, is lost. For none now live who remember it."
I always heard from anyone who'd met him in person that he was a wonderful man, rest his soul.
Very sad to read of this. What a character he was, an old breed. I remember reading of his reaction to your sword the first time you mentioned it Joe, it made me smile at the time.
"Glad" is not the right word, but it is fitting that he was able to die an old man at peace and surrounded by loved ones, after what he went through in his youth. I bet some nights in Normandy or beyond, he would never have expected to even see the next dawn.
R.I.P Bill.
It was my privalage and honer to shake his hand at the gun show last year, rest in piece a real american hero.
