i have just rented this film out 2 days ago

An interesting story, however I think the book would be better than the film, for me it was just a film full of rape scenes,

I think the film was well made though,

I also watched Fortress of War which is an AMAZING film

I have to agree that the book is quite good. It really shows the reality, for women, of the first few weeks of 'peacetime' in Berlin. It shows, also, how in order to survive, many women went into 'relationships' with Russian soldiers, who would protect them and offer food and such like in return for company / sex. But it also shows how, for many, life simply carried on, the search for shelter, food, loved ones, even working. Also how local women labor was organized for clearing up the battle damage and rebuilding their city. For anyone interested in Berlin in those days between April and late summer of 1945, I would recommend the book. Despite what happened, the women of Berlin come out as the true heros.
