Your camera choice...

I use a Lumix DMC-FC8 manufactured by Panasonic it is a few years old now but very user friendly with macro ,supermacro, and many more options at the turn of the dial with my all time favorite option simple mode point and shoot.
I have included a few example images

Here's a couple of quick shots with the Nikon D3100, no photoshopping other than cropping.

Nice shots Adrian! Are the shots of the militaria in natural light or indoor lighting? I'm struggling to get good indoor pics and was looking for a hint.

2 cameras, a P&S Nikon d9100 and the better one, a Canon Eos DSLR. My wife is artsy fartsy (when she has the urge for it) and take pics so we share the camera. I bought my own lens for it, a macro that takes the shots of badges.

The wife is a professional photographer-went to school out East and all for it. Today, she uses a Nikon L110. For every day shooting, she uses a little Nikon Coolpix 7600. Sure beats the Hell out of My poor efforts.

The EOS is a good camera. The important settings for indoors would be white balance and ISO. Raise the ISO settings a couple at a time, test a few shots and see if there is any improvement, but generally the higher the better.
Find the white balance on the menu, and change it to the "light bulb" icon. Test a few more with the ISO settings. You MAY have to take the camera out of auto to access white balance. Try aperture priority mode, it may be "Av" of "A" Use a low "F number" (F stop) then the item in focus will be sharp and the background nice and blurry. The flash should be ok on auto in Av mode.
