Well going by wot you have told us i belive that to be the top from a sixty pounder or shrapnel shell..

i have also read that the sixtey pounder gun fired 56 pounder shells so it could also be one of them

I have some pics here of a veary similar one from my collection

ive also put in a pic of it next to my 18 pounder shell wich is 3.3 inch (84 mm) wide

there is also a pic of the fuse i think you have on your shell wich is a number 83 fuse

the measurments of my shell top are 4.5 inches wide and 6 inches tall .. with a number 83 MK2 fuse

here is a tip on cleaning it

cut off the bottom 5 inches of a cola bottle fill it with just enough white vinigar to submerge the fuse and leave for a couple of hours then remove it an rub with some wire wood then wash down with water and it will go nice and shiney if not repeat untill it does

this is how i clean all my fuses so it will work

Hi i agree this is a 60lb shrapnel shell the top was designed to blow off then the lead balls would fly out shot gun style.
they do clean verty well with some work.
