Many moons ago I bought a bayonet by mail order and it turned out to be for a 1906 Springfield which the U.S. gov't made in the order of 3 million. Since it would fit the Garrand they cut over 2 million down the blades and scabbards to 8 inches. Lo and behold my camping axe has become very valuable despite the nicks and scratches because it is one of the few not cut down.

Sounds like the one I have. I was offered $200.00 U.S.D for mine at a gun show here in south Florida but I have the full scabbard and a few nicks in the blade and a dulled point.

    Hi patriot,
This is the one i have it is not the best but is ok for the year and a
the use it has had, and it was cheap. I will look for a scabbard for it in time.

From the pic it appears that the guard is slightly bent below the release button. Is the grip material a black plastic like mine? My blade is marked UFH then U sun symbol S then 1942 in a column across the width of the blade. Being 1942 it would be among the last to be made and was then stored as new because they had already started to cut down the older used ones.

    Hi mike,
The maker of the bayo is PAL in an elongated curcle, then there is U.S between this is a flaming bomb and 1942 under that.
The blade is in farely good condition but has patina owing to the way it was stored. the hilt is of black platic material ( thin grooves)
the locking clip works fine, and has a dulled point. hope this helps.

What I called a sun symbol you described better as a flaming bomb.
Don't try to clean it other than with gun oil-the patina is inportant in the value which I will try toget a better handle on. I' let you know.
    Cheers
