Electrolysis

Article about: I think you should only use iron in the solution. I don't know for sure but it might make some toxic gasses, or react with the item you are cleaning. Again, i don't know for sure what happen

    Hmmm faster results it's tempting
Maybe i should use it. I don't worry about toxic fumes, as i run the project outdoors.

And this Soviet mortar round. I bought this from a local digger in Narva and it had a nice silver color. I packed it and shipped it to my address but when i opened the box it was a bit rusty. I used electrolysis to clean it and it has become black. I have read that it's natural to get this color but the question is when is it going to become silver again?

    Hello mate

Nice setup A few tips. Try and create a sort of ring of iron bars. Also the black color can be removed with vinegar and a small metal brush. Leave in vinegar for some hours. Sometimes i leave them 12-24 hours. Maybe not needed with such a long period. Just turn on the hot water and scrub the item with the metal brush and you can see the black residue comes off. Dry with hair dryer. Apply a thin coat of oil or other preserving agent. I will see if i have some pics, but i cleaned a MG34 bolt up really good. A lot of other items too.

Maybe some have better methods but this works for me. Estland is correct on the stainless.

    Regards, Lars
