German helmet restoration

Article about: Hello. 15 years ago I purchased a WW2 German helmet from a son of a veteran. The liner is intact and overall is a nice piece. The one issue is that the man when he was a boy painted over it

    i agree with dtvpking ,what a pity it was coated in the first place ,probably to seal the bare metal shell ,looks like there might be remnants here and there of original paint ,the question then is what to do with the bare exposed shell ,would you have to seal it again in some way from superficial corrosion ,i quess it depends on your storage methods ,thanks james

    I am so glad I came across this thread, as I was about to remove the liner on M42 helmet . thanks
