First off, medical helmets never had a factory look because they were not painted in the factory. In fact, crosses on the helmet were not allowed. They were painted in the field by the owner of the helmet using brushes, never air guns. Second, there are many variations of crosses that were painted, go and research them and decide which one fits your impression best. Third, to weather it, follow these instructions:
    1. Paint
    2. Find Tree
    3. Hit against tree
    4. Find gravel
    5. Throw on gravel
    6. Repeat steps 2-5 until satisfied

Whoa, hold your horses here , is this a genuine ww2 helmet or a post war, if original then adding anything to it devalues it straight away, it becomes a repaint and whatever happens , if you come to sell it later you will lose money, if its a post war, then fair enough but it still devalues the helmet whatever way you look at it.
