I just got this old map but it has some rips and wear on the fold lines. Any ideas on a good way to fix the rips and prevent more tears? I was thinking about using dull (not shiny) scotch tape on the back but that seems kind of amateur...am I wrong? Thanks for any info.

Yeah, I was thinking that too, but I also want it to remain with the case it came with as well. Here a few more pics.

    Nice item!

I think if it is simply being stored inside of the map case, there is no problem and the map should hold up pretty nicely

Thanks Joshua, I guess you have a good point there. Any other suggestions as to repair are still welcome.

Could take a scale picture of the map(s) as folded out of the case and put the copies into the case. Then you could open, frame and preserve the original.

    Nice pick up BTW

Keep it in the case as found. Never try and repair old paper.

    Don't use scotch tape. It's a killer.

Check the internet for suppliers of Archival Repair Tape which is similar but safer.

Not a bad idea to leave in its original case or a poster frame. Any messing with old paper might do more harm than good.

    God luck.

    Cheers,

    Pat

I would just leave it alone and try not to handle it very often.

    Nice Panzer Beret BTW

Thanks guys, I like the copy idea, put he copy in the case and frame the original, however Ade is probably right about just leaving it be. I thank all you for the ideas! Prost.
