Need help...restoring a beat to hell knife

I bought this when I first started to collect. It is beat to hell... but it was 5 dollars. It was unissued, but stupidly, my mom took the tape off and tried to clean it. I would like to fix the scabbard, and remove the stuff on the knife. As I said it is unissued, and would look great restored. Thanks guys.

Bop do you know what the white stuff is, as for the scabbard, i think its past repair, but you should be able to find a replacement, there is a product here called auto sol that is a metal cleaner thats very good and doesnt scratch the surfaces, it polishes, shines and protects, but i would yhink that once you have removed the white you will need to re-blue or black the blade

This one is not as 'beat to hell' as you might think !
If the blade is Parkerized though, you really cannot recoat it yourself.

It looks as though the knife has been exposed to high humidity or dampness,
and by simply oiling the blade and rubbing lightly, this will remove most of the
'white stuff'. It will never come back completely, but it will look a lot better.

I would not attempt polishing, as this will harm the dull original finish.

As Davejb says, you should be able to find a nice replacement USN scabbard,
and for a knife as nice as this one, it would probably be worth it.
I've seen them on (shudder) 'E-bay', but be prepared to spend $50
or more, as they are a sought after component.

That is a very nice KaBar. It is not "beat to hell". Use some oil and a cloth on the blade, should clean up really well with just that.
