Plan for day 4:

I have gotten most of the screws out, but there are still about 4-5 that need to be removed, but since they are so old, weak and rusted, I think I will need professional help. There is a hunting/weapon store nearby, and if it is open, I will go by there tomorrow and ask if they can help in any way.

if those scews go into the steel they will be relativly easy for a profecional to remove
but if they screw into the wood ,and the wood has shrunck on them then it may be a bit of a task
as its dificult to use heat and some other methods with wood screws
sscrews into metal can be driled out as they are paralel thread
but wood screws are tapered
good luck with ..im sure if you find a good profetional he will deal with these screws one way or another
but you will have to get new screws im sure

It was pretty hard to get a proper shot of the bore, here is the best one:

It will be a tiny challenge to get the ammo for it, but it's doable. But once again: It is pretty rusty and it will probably take a bit before I would feel safe enough to fire it.

As for the screws: They are all stuck into the wood, and the screws are really bad, so they will need to be replaced. I have my fingers crossed that the people in the hunting/weapon store knows how to do it.

im sure a good man will sort those screws for you
the bore looks ok just a bit rusty nothing a good gunsmith cant sort out
im sure , if you were to use a half charge ,it would be safe inof to fire
im sure your gunsmith will be able to help and advise you
gun barrels are very resiliant things they can take years of rust and bad treatment .but still have good strength
having said that its always best to use a lower charge and get a gun smith to test fire it first

Day 4:
It looks like I will unfortunately be stuck for a bit...
I talked to the guy in the hunting/weapon store and he told me to as at a hardware store for help and told me it might be possible to drill the screws out. I want to the hardware store and they tell me that it would be best to get a hold of a gunsmith. There are not many gunsmiths around, so I will have to do a bit of searching.

At least I have gotten a far way.

Day 5:

I got a screw remover thingy and removed/destroyed the 2 screws holding together the receiver etc. The screws were completely rusted and I don't think it would have been possible to get them out any other way.

The result was a bit better than I expected, the parts however were very rusted, not sure I have that much oxalic acid left...

I still have 2 screws in the stock buttplate, but I am not sure if it is a good idea to use the screw remover on that. The project will probably hold up for a while until I can get hold of replacement screws etc. I will try to bathe the rusted parts in oxalic acid in the weekend.

Day 6:
Bath and assembly


I disassembled the trigger housing etc and put them in oxalic acid, I did not however get a picture after I took them out of the acid, but you can probably see them in the pictures below:

I still need 2 screws to hold it properly together, they will hopefully be easy to get a hold of. The stock buttplate still needs to have it's screws removed so that the buttplate can get an extra cleaning.

I have to say I am very pleased with the whole restoration process, it functions much much better now.
