WW1 Boot found help needed in preservation.

I have a soldiers boot from the ww1 era in decent condition considering how long its been underground! I have packed it in the soil that it was found with, placed in a sealed bag and kept out of the sun. The last time I had one like this I plastered it in renaissance wax but the leather started to crumble after a while. Has anyone had a similar problem or have a solution or any suggestions to preserving this item?

I will post pictures when I know what to do with it. (I dont want to remove it from the bag unnecessarily)
