I would ask a Mod to move this to the Awards forum.

Personally, I would never clean an award. Removing the age and Patina will only devalue it.

Relic/ground dug awards may be cleaned depending on the circumstances and condition

Awards with zinc pest should be preserved with a light coat of Vasiline

Hi Marcelo, I would generally avoid cleaning them. I would only focus on their preservation. Keep them in a place protected from dust, sunlight and of course humidity. Sometimes attempting to clean medals and badges can ruin them, or at best, like MAP said, devalue them.

Over cleaning will remove a lot of the medals value along with any
sense of history it may of had.
When I get a new iron cross, all I will ever do is take a used, soft bristle
toothbrush and remove any dust ,loose dirt or rust.

I would never dream of polishing or removing the patina.
