I've never seen a M40 or M40-63 (or even the paratroop version with the three-point chinstrap rig) with any markings of any kind, and I have seen a good number. So not finding any is not at all unusual.

No, they are not rare, as in for example original Polish wz31 or original Swiss M18 or even the recent British PECOC, but definately uncommon as in usually hard to find, espeically in good condition as yours is. I'm particularly interested in them so I keep an eye out and its not that often any turn up on Ebay or the like. But....there are, incredibly, several examples of the para version on Ebay right now. I almost feel I shouldn't have said that as I'm quite keen on getting another one - or even two - myself!
