    Default Commercial M1917 Doughboy

    Bought this Commercial produced m1917.
I have already been reading a couple of threads on WAF and Warrelics about these helmets and the general conclusion is that it's simply not known where these helmets could have been used however most of them have likely been used by civil defense, coastguard, marine (liberty ships). The marking on the front and the fact that it has bullet holes makes this an interesting lid for me however. Anyone any ideas/thoughts?

the bullet holes are most likely from the target range, somebody shot at it for fun to test penetration

That has crossed my mind as well.
But why would anyone take so much trouble just to take 3 proper shots at it.
I would personally shoot it to bits.
