    While we are at it....

    For your viewing pleasure:

    1, M/48 "hjelmbind" - in white.
When on manoeuvres, and in need of "enemies", you would have one team with white helmet bands.

The "design" originated from the helmet band used, for the same reasons, with the M23 helmet.
I suspect, that the brass fittings are from the M23 helmet band. The white cotton band has obviously been changed during the past 50+ years.

    Hi all
Finally tracked down my Danish Police lid!!! its now reunited with its liner strap/chin cup
unfortunately the paint finish is a bit to be desired and on gentle cleaning the Austrian makers stamp Usch 65 almost disappeared!!!
these helmets have at sometime been badly stored and water/marking is evident on liner, chin strap hard wear, and shell!!
amazingly the piece of paper with the previous issued owner's name and position/rank!?? printed on it and selotaped onto the top of the liner , has just about survived!!!

decal has a small scratch across the crown...other than that ...general condition apart from the water damage is very good!!!

I have tried to find out for how long the M1s were used by the Danish police.
Up until the 1970s seems to be the extend of their use, although I am not entirely certain.

Here, from the Danish Police Museum in Copenhagen. Worth a visit!

No worries, I promised to see what I could find out on the police helmets.

They were used by many branches of the police, but most noticeably by the riot-police.
As seen in the photo from the museum.

As I wrote, the 1970s seems to be the very last decade they were used, as the 1980s saw the introduction of "kevlar" like helmets,
and other more efficient light blue uniforms. They looked a lot like light blue Danish M/58 uniforms, and in a non-flammable material.

I will, later today, post a 1990s M1 helmet, from "Beredskabstyrelsen" = DEMA (Danish Emergency Management Agency). The very last M1 helmets ever to be issued and used by any Danish government agency.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing the DEMA model it sounds very interesting indeed, the Danish M1 has so many varieties I was not aware of previously

One of my latest acquisitions is a Beredskabstyrelsen DEMA (Danish Emergency Management Agency) M1 helmet.

What is DEMA, you might ask? Well have a look: Danish Emergency Management Agency
DEMA is the current nation wide Emergency Management Agency, and it is actually under the Ministry of Defence.
Why is that? Well, from the beginning of the Cold War, the Danish government decided, that the country needed a bigger nationwide emergency service. In 1949 the Civilforsvaret (CF) was founded. A huge organisation (more that 10.000 men), with many specialised units: Fire, chemicals, evacuation... etc.

With the fall of the Berlin wall, and the end of the Cold War, the Danish government decided to re-organize the CF (in 1993).
They organisation was trimmed down (600 regulars, 750 conscripts), to a small but efficient corps, that could help local fire brigades with specialised equipment and well trained crews and other crews that can be deployed around the globe to help with natural disasters and man-made disasters.

With the re-organisation of the CF to the Beredskabsstyrelsen, they equipment changed colour as well. The old grey "military like" equipment was discontinued, and a new orange colour became the dominant colour. Uniforms are now dark blue.
That is because the international distinctive sign of civil defence, defined by the rules of International Humanitarian Law is a blue triangle on orange/yellow background.

    The helmet:

The helmet is a standard M1 helmet clone of the earliest batch.
It is a repainted warehouse stock helmet, with a 1960-70s DKI liner.
Chinstraps are however the last version issued.
With the special ability, that they can be un-buttoned from the swivel bales.
They are made of dark grey cotton and with brass buckles.
