Hey there. Was hoping someone could help me identify this helmet that I picked up in Afghanistan. There seems to be the remnants of a red star on the front. Not sure how clear it comes through in the picture though. Thanks for any help!

Hi, and welcome to the forum!
It is not Soviet in design.
My subject is only WW2. I am sure some of the other forum members will be able to help you.
Cheers, Ade.
Thanks Ade! Really hoping to figure this one out. Finally unpacking. Forgot I had this, and started trying to find out "what" it is/where it's from.
Thanks for the welcome as well!
Hi, I would say it's a yugoslav Neretva 44 model, used during the last conflict in the Balkans
I was think that this one is Bulgarian or Yugoslav, but BKG just gave a full info about that helmet
here's a good link about this helmet. During 1992-93 i brought back quite a number of these helmets...
elmetto.net - articles - the Yugoslav Ne44 helmet
This is a Yougoslav People Army helmet with red star. This model is in use even today in Serbian Army but with serbian twohead eagle.
Friedly from Serbia
Aleksandar
Hello Aleksandar,
yes you're right. It's called Ne44 (Neretva 44). Good helmet
After the Balkan war, they were commonly sold very cheap "by weight" and probably exported also over there in Afghanistan
here's a pile of those Ne44 helmets I saw at the military fair last Sunday
regards
Matt
