This looks like a modified WWII Italian helmet possibly brought back form the middle east? notice it has a hole on top with a washer and a British MKII type liner

this type of modification is common in Israel and other areas like Iran / Iraq or from the Arab / Israeli wars

Unrelated, but I've seen an M35/40 (couldn't tell at the time) with this liner set up. Sure was strange to look at.
