Went on a very long overnight hike this past weekend (about 20miles total). My buddy used all modern gear and I used all WWII uniforms, gear, and rations. It was an amazing experience and the scenery was stunning! Unfortunately, I only got about an hour of sleep and I got many bad blisters on my feet.

Went on another hike on the same trail using my WWII gear. Last time, we hiked in the middle of the summer and sweat to death. This time, we wanted to experience colder conditions. Unfortunately, the weather ended up being far worse than what was forecasted. The wind gusted the entire time, it snowed, and temperatures plummeted to the teens Fahrenheit. Building a fire, cooking, and staying warm was difficult, but we managed. I didn't get much sleep, maybe only 2 or 3 hours... Finally, I took much better care of my feet this time around. No blisters to report.

I picked up some reproduction K Rations from Hogan Quartermaster. They were very well done and were a morale booster! Hot chocolate I made using crumbled D Ration was amazing!

Thanks for the kind words, gents! These hiking trips give me at least an inkling of an idea of what it was like for US soldiers in WWII to use these uniforms and gear under adverse conditions.

Decided to put together a WWI US impression to participate in the Newville, PA reenactment. This past weekend, 650 participants came out representing British and Commonwealth, US, Russian, French, German, and Austrian forces. This was by far the most immersive event I've done. The trenches were well constructed and expansive, there were gas and mortar attacks and the fighting continued well after sunset.
