Do you already have this book ?
A must have for the cossack collector !!!
Many many .... pictures and information of the cossack formations on the westfront and Yugoslavia.
Yes i have this one, a well made book .
Brothers in Arms
The previous Don cossack and a ROA soldier.
The ROA soldier has an untouched ROA jacket with the emblem on the left under arm !!!!
Why .....? Well I don't know, maybe someone around here on the forum knows. I never seen it on any picture like this. The jacket is a coloured dutch ex army jacket. The pockets and the collar have a different colour.
The ''litzen'' (collartabs in english) are artillery red.
Wow, quality jacket. It looks great! You have a gem there Sir.
I have a theory why the shield is placed like this- Could it be a "Im dienst der Deutche Wehrmacht" or related armband has been attached higher up on the sleeve?
He could have been working for the police, maybe some kind of "Schuma/Police" related position. Translator etc. Have you searched very closely to see evidence after stitches or threads on the sleeve?
Mmmmm........maybe you have a point, wil take a look tomorrow in daylight.
Thanks !
Here are some other pictures of the jacket.
See the colour differences. On some places you can see the original colour of the jacket (under the arms, inside of the cuffs etc.)
The jacket is made in 1917, later on the dutch army made changes to the wool colour of the jackets. Why the jacket is colourized I don't know, must be done by the eastern volunteers. They also did it with some german police jackets they received.
I am looking forward to hear what you find out. This ROA jacket is very interesting!
Looked by daylight, l am not sure but it can be that there was another armshield on the ''normal'' place. But I have to say it is hard to see and of course you sometimes want to see it ...........
It can be but I am not sure !!!!!!!
Tried to make pictures of it but I can't get the little difference on the picture.
Here is another picture of the same jacket, the inside of the breast pocket flap.
