Hi everyone, wondered if anyone knows of any good reading material on Vichy france?
thanks in advance!!
I would recommend 'England's Last War Against France'
England's Last War Against France: Fighting Vichy 1940-1942: Colin Smith: 9780753827055: Amazon.com: Books
Not strictly about Vichy France but gives a very good background to government and the impact on the French colonies.
I have on order and was told it was a great book......France the Dark Years 1940-1944
by Julian Jackson.

many thanks guys, ive just ordered both books
Have you read Robert O. Paxton, Vichy France: Old Guard and New Order, 1940-1944 (2001) and Susan Juccotti The Holocast, The French, and the Jews (1993)? Dwight
Two I would recommend are:
Charles Williams biography of Petain and also Petain's Crime by Paul Webster, about Vichy collaboration in the Holocaust.
Hope this helps.
"Hitlers War" by D. Irwing is a good source as well. The book is from 1977 and from before he got controversial.
Regards, Lars
There are also some decent videos on Youtube concerning the Vichy Gov't, Petain, Laval, etc...
Just in case you weren't aware of them..
cheers, Glenn
many thanks everyone for you input and suggestions!!
and thanks for the pointers to youtube glenn, I didn't even think of that!
This film is on the Life in Clermond Ferrand with Frenchs Germans, pro Vichy and against, French SS Christian de la Mazières.
Very long and I know you have one English version. Woody Allen like it.
