Hi Joel,
Nice post and great pics. I never knew this was there. I have a grouping from a guy who was a coastal artillery soldier maybe he was there.

Hi Joel
Thank you for posting these pictures. Looks like a very interesting place to visit.

They are actually restoring Battery Pratt's gun #1 to where they can actually fire it during reenactments. It's a pretty neat gun. It can't be seen from the river. Once loaded, it would pop up over the wall, fire, then disappear back behind the wall. Not only is it pre-WW2 design, it's pre-WW1 design. The guns were first constructed about 110 years ago.
Good stuff. Really interesting place. Any period photos floating around?
Really nice pictures Joel. It's good to see that they took care of the fort.

Nice to see the fort is being looked after ..
When did it go out of official use ?

Great place! I grew up a few miles form there. In the seventies the place was turned into the park we see today. My dad worked at the park and would take me in. There were a lot more buildings to explore back then, most had been burned down for safety reasons. Still, it is a good place to look for relics if you look on the ground while you walk.
