Crimean graves of German soldiers...between Sevastopol and Yalta. All German dead are now moved to this sight in the Crimea. On this post are wartime german military cemeteries for Perekop, Sevastopol, and Kerch. All were recorded with at least three different names for the area the graves were put. Tatar, Ethnic Ukrainian/Russian, and the communist name. This helped to find them them in the early 1990s when many who knew the names were dead. Bc the names were recorded by old and new...someone always knew the sight. A Russian woman who speaks German looks after the cemetery and received mostly german visitors. Several new graves were evident as were several visitations by families seeking the burial of long lost relatives. A very very interesting place...resembling many german grave sights I have seen in Estonia, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, and Hungary. My favorite is Narva....the graves look as though they are on watch for the Russian bear,

Here are some other photos that were in the Chapel. One is of the cemetery being built, things left, and citizens of the Crimean area being questioned about locations. The Russian lady who looks after the cemetery is pictured as well as a photo of the road along the coast.

Are the dots on the map individual soldiers, or cemeteries that were consolidated to this one?

Was in the Crimea about 5 years ago Jake , an area that has always held a great interest for me as it has seen so much war over the years , hopefully it won't see any more in the near future !!

Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

You know Paul...there is a lot to see in the Crimea. A person needs three or four weeks to do it right. I didn't make it to Kerch....and I really wanted to go.
