... the following pics are all from weapons which will stand here all over as momoral for the heavy fightings between the Red Army and the defending german 8th Panzer division. In that area the germans have used more than 100.000 mines (!!!) against the incoming Soviets.

The cleaning of the whole Dukla Pass area would have been officially ended in 1965, some 20 years after the war. About 100.000 mines would have been found and it is beliveable that another thousands would have been left out in the wood ... One good advice would be : ... never leave the signposted ways

Well ... In No. 139 of the After the Battle magazine you'll find the whole story of the Dukla Pass operations. The Cracket Heart Monument market the place where Gen. Vedral-Sazavskys command car was blown up by a german anti-tank mine which killed everyone on board this car

Pic 4 - the grave of Gen. Vedral-Sazavskys

This place named Nizna Pisana is about 5 km south of the border ... here have been the main german defence line with bunkers ... driving carefully and ever watching out for tanks an Artillery ...
It's a pity that our our programe here presents the pics not numerical so that it's not easy to tell the story. The road shown is a little sideroad where most of the pieces are located ... officially it's not allowed to drive on that road ... I've done
