    Default Lidice

The site of the former village of Lidice, destroyed by the Nazis along with another village, Ležaky, as part of the reprisals following the assassination of SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Reinhard Heydrich, the Hangman of Prague.

    Images as follows...

An aerial view compilation, with modern day, pre and post destruction photographs. The comparison is overwhelming.

Moving onward, we see a view from the far end, looking backwards towards the memorial entrance. Also shown here is a view of the large memorial structures located at the entry point, together with two fine commemorative works which flank the entrance area.

When I view the destruction, and read about the suffering they caused, I wish I could spend an afternoon 'playing' with these three. I would have liked to have given them my 'opinion' on what they did.

Thankyou you for this thread Carl. It is vital that we as collectors remember the humanity behind the collecting!

Further images show all that remains of the first house in the village, and the ruins of the former Horák farm. Artifacts that were later found at the site belonging to the Horák family are displayed within the museum building.

The next set of images show the ruins of St.Martin's church, the original doors that are preserved within the museum building, and the fire service vehicle, that survived due to the fact that it was outside the village whilst the destruction took place.
