    Hi BullandHaynes,

It certainly is my book - based entirely on my diaries which I kept at the time. I am currently working on another book which is purely about my battery's tour in Andersonstown. I have over 20 of my former comrades who have contributed - along with a retired Brigadier. I tried to get former Provo's involved so that they could give their side of the story, but they didn't want to know. I have made the book as balanced as I possibly could. But the subject of Northern Ireland is very much still a festering wound to a lot of people. Former terrorists are given immunity from prosecution, but these same people are STILL trying to get former soldiers on trial. Unfortunately there is no justice, and that is all I am prepared to say on this website -its far too controversial to go any further. Even what I have said now may offend some, but no offence is meant.

    Cheers,
    Steve.
    Spot on Steve !!

Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.

Thanks for reminding me what a great film Kanal is...I am going to watch it again this evening

Andrzej Wajda's 1957 film Kanal is about the failed Warsaw Rising 1944 and was shot on and below the streets of Warsaw, as it did not need special stage sets because even though more than ten years after the end of the WWII, Warsaw still had a huge number of ruined sites Wajda could choose from. It was only in 2003, that one of the last war-time ruins in Warsaw - the Divine Mercy and Saint Faustyna Church on ul. Zytnia -was finally restored!

Shot after the "Thaw" Kanal was unusual for its more open portrayal of the uprising. Previously under the Stalinist regime the insurgents were considered "reactionary fascistic forces" by the Polish communists and discussion of the subject was always with a socialist slant whereby the Soviet backed AL and PAL insurgents (tiny in number) were portrayed as the major players in the Rising and the majority AK fighters were insignificant...and in fact the cause of the catastrophe!
    I collect, therefore I am.

    Hi,

Thanks for adding to the thread - but how did you do it? I closed the thread due to unfair management where others we able to express their views on a off topic discussion but when i did the same mine was unfairly deleted and my request to move the off topic conversation ignored. I suggested moving that conversation to a new thread.

    Regards
    Chris

Moderators can post on closed threads.

It was not just that the thread had strayed off topic, but also the topic to which it had strayed which is far too political in nature to be discussed without the potential for argument to arise. Political subjects are not allowed on the forum.

Closing it is a good idea, though if it had stayed on topic it would have stayed open.
    Regards,

    Jerry

    Whatever its just an opinion.
