My interest in Monsun Gruppe began when I learned about the voyage of U862 to Australia and New Zealand.
Here's a photo of U862 approaching Penang on 9 September 1944 after a long voyage from Narvik.
U862 trialed the use of Hohentweil radar which retracted into the conning tower for diving.
