Default New memorial to homosexuals murdered by the Nazis

The Berlin government has given the go-ahead for a memorial designed by a Scandinavian artist-duo in central Berlin commemorating thousands of homosexuals persecuted by Nazi Germany. In addition to the famous Holocaust monument -- consisting of a field of cement slabs -- to Europe's murdered Jews in downtown Berlin, the German capital will in the future be the location to another memorial to Nazi victims.Designed by a Norwegian-Danish artist-duo, the memorial will remember the tens of thousands of homosexuals persecuted and killed by Hitler's regime.

Sins of the fathers shouldn’t be put onto the shoulders of the children.
The Japanese don’t seem to bother commemorating the many many atrocities that they were responsible for!
Come to think of it, compare the number of war crimes with the number of executed offenders and you may find it interesting.
We have it seems forgotten about Manchuria, China, Malaya, Borneo and the list goes on and on.
I work with a survivor of the Far East, the scars remained till his dying day.
If it wasn’t for America’s fear of communism and the lack of troops to control European interests, would we have been so very lenient with many of the Japanese officers?
Also as a general rule the Germans treated prisoners of war far better than the Japanese. Even the Russian prisoners had a greater chance of surviving under the Germans than prisoners in the Far East!
The Japanese excuse was the same party line as the German officers, yet we executed far more Germans!!!
As a foot note the Russians, mainly Starlin got off under the eye for an eye rule!

I agree about the experiences with German folk. Nothing but positive during my two trips there in the late 90's. We also hosted a German exchange student for a year in the early 90's. At age 17, her interest in and knowledge of the period was minimal at best. I believe that her generation and subsequent generations have moved on.

IMHO, the real memorials to the victims are the remains of the camps themselves, not the concrete slabs in Berlin. I visited 13 of them in Germany and Poland on my first trip, including some of the most infamous, and was more affected standing on that ground than I ever would be by concrete memorials. Just my opinion.

    Museums, not Memorials!

I'm sorry, but a bunch of "artistic" concrete slabs memorializes nothing, they just become an eyesore. You want people to remember the past...then SHOW them the past.

No disrespect to the victims ment, it's how there being remembered that's becoming a joke!

    Hello,
At the time, no one did think about gipsies, homosexuals, disabled people, etc.....who were murdered, slavered to death. IMHO They should be all remembered equally and monuments should be raised where they were killled and where they were rounded up or temporarely kept before being sent to death. not commenting on the monuments themselves.

Also, i live next to germany, and i'm very happy since they are a peaceful people who don't want to invade my country and kill my relatives and friends (or me) each 25 years. Denazification permitted to build the EU (what it is now is another problem) which is a good thing for european peoples.
    thanks Gentlemen

From 1917 up to the death of "Uncle Joe" in 1953,there were many more millions murdered and who disappeared than all casualties of WW2 put together.Shot, gassed by the Cheka's in the ' Black Ravens' trucks sometimes made to look like vans made for bakery shops. Boat loads brought out on ships and sunk. Torture,Gulags and whatever else the mind can imagine. There is not too much said about those who perpetrated these crimes and their victims. Why?

An excellent point. And here's another point: I find a real irony in the fact that as the Russians were sitting in judgement at Nuremberg, the Volksdeutsche (men, women, children and the elderly) in the east were being raped, murdered and brutally expelled by Russians, Poles, Czechs and other eastern European peoples, even though many of them had nothing to do with National Socialism or its crimes. They were persecuted simply because they were Germans. You don't hear a lot about that either!

Like the saying goes....'History is written by the victors'. The truth is usually one of the first casualties.
