Re the Jeep: our firearms forum Moderator Bill Grist has shown an original photo of his late father with a field made 6 wheeler Jeep somewhere on the forum.
Cheers, Ade.
I have found the photo of Bill's Dad:

BTW VW's are another interest of mine, what years your beetle, and how long did it take to restore.
Nige.
"Now, I've designed this like a collapsing bag ! "
Hello Nige,
yes VW-Beatles/Kübel and Schwimmer are very interesting vehicles, but the prices explodes every year, so my dream of a Schwimmer seems to be buried.
a Kübel may be not so good in very rough or muddy terrain as the jeep
but the Schwimmer is the best thing for all purposes
My VW82e was built in 1946 for the british Military-Police of the Rhine-Army. They had enough parts of the Wehrmacht-Kübel and put a Käfer-House on the Kübel-Platform as they did for WaffenSS Officers staff cars.
But for the British they built extra exhausts with high end pipes and in front of the beatle a Grabenrolle like Dodges and halftracks had.
The beatle was restored in the 60th. and I bought it in 2003, so I had not so much work on it.
These little cars in our days are able to drive to Normandy or Afrika like our fathers did
and I often visited the Ardennes and Normandie this year on axle with this little car.
Regards
Alex
