Ade. You keep digging trenches because you look like a WWI Tommy.

LOL
Here we have the Schloss Hartenfels. This rises above the town and is next to the memorials shown. It even has a bear pit in what would have been the moat! But the bears were getting ready for the annual hibernation.

Torgau was, of course, infamous as the town which housed the German Military Prison system. In the Schloss there was an exhibition dedicated to this. Exhibits include an original cell door and stories about different soldiers and how they ended up there. The Soviets used the prison for their own ends after the war was over.
The prison itself is still in use, so we did not go there as I suspected photographs would not be allowed.

Just a shot of the town square. The tourist info were very helpful there and they have a display devoted to the US/Soviet link up. They also have a good selection of books for sale and a nice cafe.
I picked up a great book about the link up, lots of pics and English/German text.
Cheers, Ade.

Great pic. Those Russians sure loved their Red Nines!
Colditz!
Since I was teenager watching the film Colditz story and the TV series, this is a place I have always wanted to visit.
We walked up the same route that would have been taken by the POW's. Here is the meadow where the prisoners could sometimes take excersise.

The entrance to the Castle and looking up to it's walls. What thoughts must have gone through the POW's minds?

As you enter the main gate shown in the previous pic, this the view of it looking backwards.

We now face another gateway. This lead into the courtyard which housed the German Guards.
