I have been to Gettysburg probably 70 times or more in the 30 years as I have many friends there including Sam and Wes Small who run the Horse Soldier, and I used to re-enact the Civil War..down there as a rule the better events had 8000 to 12,000 re-enactors,,the 135 of Gettysburg had over 24,000 Soldiers..about 250 full size cannon and many Cav..I was there and when we made the July 3rd Charge we had 14,000 Confederates doing it..it was truly something to see!!!
I was there about 5 weeks ago again. and gave a Battlefield tour to a friend that had not been there since he was 5, and I do know that battlefield well
We have to remember that the 1st fellow that was taking photos there did not arrived until late 2 days later or early 3 days later.
50,000 casualties in a town of 5000, not to mention the 1000s of dead horses and mules.
There are some very interesting books on "after the Battle". in some cases more interesting than what happened durning.
I do not mean to hijack the thread..these photos are so Great, I am looking forward to seeing more for different time periods, I wish I had the skill to do it.
Just thought the story of the Dead Confederate being moved and used in a few photos was interesting
