At least a few of these old war horses are being saved for future generations. Do you know if this is state subsidized? Takes alot of money to keep them afloat. Thanks for posting.

This is about 15- 20 min. from my house and do you think I went yet. One of these days I will do the tour. It is staffed by lots of volunteers. I have talked to a lot of people and they say its a good tour . Gary

This is what their website says:
Your support is so important. The USS SLATER is owned and operated by the private not for profit
Destroyer Escort Historical Museum as an IRS 501(c)(3). Founded by veterans as a living naval museum, USS SLATER is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for national significance. Its operation is funded by contributions from loyal members, volunteers, former ship crews, corporations
and private foundations. The Museum does not rely on taxpayer money, but on the generosity and patriotic spirit of those interested in preserving our naval heritage and insuring that the memory of these veterans is not forgotten when they are gone.

My girlfriend lives about 10mins away from the Slater and goes to school right in Albany. I'm planning on taking the tour next Wednesday. I'll be sure to post my review of the tour and post plenty of pictures!
