i think all of the US battleships are now museums. I know the IOWA is on the west coast. I wonder if we got the silver dinnerware set back? When the Iowa is not commissioned the Officers silver set is on display in our Capital. We have to give it back when it is recommissioned. Does The UK have ships as museums like we do?

We have HMS Belfast down in London, a WW2 light cruiser, she is now a museum. I don't think we have any Battleships remaining anywhere though.

Great pics and the USS Wisconsin looks like a beaut. I'd love to visit her one day!

I've never been on a battleship, but I've been on the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier in New York City and the USS Slater destroyer escort in Albany, NY. Both are awe-inspiring!

Thanks Joe. I really want to see the intrepid but never get to NYC. It looks like a nice museum with best of both worlds, air and sea power.

Space, too! One of the recently decommissioned space shuttles is housed across the street from the Intrepid AND the Intrepid has a wing dedicated to Nasa's other feats of space exploration.

USS Texas was shown in a recent thread here-was listing to port due to a lack of maintenance, a great shame-the presence of the battleship in the 1990-91 Gulf war was a deception, making it look as though the US was going to mount a direct amphibious assault on Kuwait City rather than the 'left hook' armoured attack through the desert. The ships did launch Tomahawk cruise missiles as part of the campaign along with anything else that was armed with them.

You're right Joe, I forgot they now have a shuttle. I'm not far from Udvar Hazy section of air and space museum. Might try to get there some day.

I remember the thread about the Texas. What a shame. It could be as beautiful as the Wisconsin.
