I am very seriously considering purchasing this cap. The problem is, I have no idea how to tell a WWII-era Soviet cap from a 50's one. Could I please get your opinions, gentlemen?

I would say this one is 50s still a nice cap, the period hats are hard to tell the age at least for me.

I strongly believe, as Dom does, that this is a modern copy.
The sweatband, liner, and plastic (70s - 90s) chinstrap with the rounded ends are the giveaways to me. I have seen newspaper tucked behind the sweatband before on genuine examples, but this one:

From what I have read, the sweatband should be a very dark leather, should it not? If I ever come across one of these, how can I tell if it's WWII or 1950's?
No leather sweatbands Mo, and there exist a few different colors of oilcloth.
If you ever come across another one that you are interested in, do just what you did, show it here first.
I own quite a few examples, and I am certain that others do also. Unfortunately, I am unable to post images of them at present.
