Article about: Nice salty DRK hewer Ralph! I have owned quite a few of these Hewers and they are a lot of steel for their value. I guess you have a Klaas here, its has the lower scabbard fitting with the 2
This nice frog for my hewer just arrived the other day.
It is marked with a capital "H" on the reverse like many others. There is also a small hole at the top on the reverse, obviously, someone has hung it on a nail for some time.
I have also gently cleaned the hewer. My hands were getting dirty handling this piece. I started by cleaning the scabbard and of course, once you start, you can't stop. There was much dirt and nicotine on it. After a gentle cleaning, you can see that there is still much of the silvering left on this piece and the patina remains.

Ralph, Good for you! She cleaned up very nice (I bet it was a pleasure cleaning the scabbard paint, it looked minty under the grime!) and it was neat to see the Klaas maker mark! I never had it apart.. kevin.

Hi Kevin,
Thank you very much!
Other than some slight crazing to the paint, the sheath finish is in quite good condition.
I wasn't sure how you would feel about it.

Fits great into the rest of your lovely displays!!
This big kapital has imo nothing to do with a makers mark, lots of early ones are properly marked with marker and place.
I think it the abbr. of the "standort" ( city or stationary place)
Will look into that when i can find some spare time.
Hopefully someone beats me with the correct answer!

Thanks Ger!
I would tend to agree with you. I look forward to hearing whatever you find out.

One of my favorite edged pieces as far as weight and styling for sure.
I have posted a picture of the frog with the "K" stamped on back and a couple shots of mine. The "K" is hard to see on my frog but faint and is up centered on back towards top of leather tab straight up from center stitch row. I think Ger is probably right about location, region or city. Would love to know as I have always wondered myself.
Ralph...Send me one of those display cases X 10. Did you make them yourself my friend?
Well done!
