Now there is a nice bayo By a very rare maker! It is a 98/05 aAsMT, which in laymans terms means it is a 1st model (alter Art) with sawback (mit Sage) transitional (T), 1st model sawback with high ears and flashguard. Undated, but this only happened in 1915. The last line under Schulte & Co. is Gevelsberg. Are there any other markings on it, such as a fraktur "B" on the pommel or an "RK" on the underside of the crossguard?

Also looks like someone put a layer of varnish or shellac on it. I have had several items over the years that this has been done to. The story goes that a lot of old time collectors did this to preserve it. I've seen it on everything from medals to helmets and of course, bayonets.

Again a very nice butcher from a rare maker.

This maker is sometimes found with the markings I mentioned, so I was curious if yours had them. It is unknown, to me at least, what they signify. Ferdinand Schleutermann is the supplier of the blade, so maybe the other marks are for some other subcontractor?

    Again, great bayo!
