Now that you have glued it try to obtain a furniture stick there used for scuff marks etc fill all the cracks with this , this will stop the other wood cracking. The cracks are caused by the wood shrinking and you need to try and stop this, the furniture sticks contain a wax that helps to rehydrate the wood and seal the open pores of the wood.
