Pretty cool photo. I think I've seen the dagger in a postcard with Hitler and Mussolini together from the visit. Not to go off topic here, but what award is Himmler wearing on the left breast pocket?

It's the Knights Grand Cross of the Order of Saints Maurice & Lazarus. This breast star and sash (which is green) were awarded to Himmler on the 7th of April 1938 by Mussolini. He is wearing the 1936 German Olympic Games Medal 1st Class around his neck. Also visible is the GPB and his Blood Order on the right pocket.
Here's another photo taken at the time, note the dagger the same as Hitler's.

Thanks so much for the info. I don't think I've ever seen a photo with Himmler wearing the Olympic medal either. Loads of wisdom on here!
Interesting thread. A friend picked up a cased Italian dagger years ago. When he was looking at the case he discovered the lid opened up and the chain hanger was stored inside. Made his day.
