If nobody else wants to, I will try to explain the dedication.
This dagger was given as a present by the veterans of Inf.Reg.Nr.99 to the best rifleman in its "Traditionstruppenteil".
A "Traditionstruppenteil" is keeping up the lineage of a disbanded regiment (from housing the regimental flag to hosting veterans meetings).
And here comes my problem:
The 1932 list of Tradionstruppenteile lists 16./IR3 as lineage keeper for IR99.
16. Kompanie should be the second training Kompanie of IR3 (right?). I'm not shure when this Kompanie was formed. Maybe this item dates before that happend. Than the linage could well have been on 12. Kompanie.
I see no reason why this should be a fake item. If you are going to fake an Eickhorn dagger, why doing it with such a mysterious dedication? A dedication conecting the dagger to the third reich would bring more cash output than this Reichswehr dedication.
I think I just found the answer...
The 1939 list of Traditionsverbände shows that the linage of IR99 has turned over to III./IR79, newly formed in 1936 after the remilitarization of the Rhineland.
So this would date this dagger from 1936-1939.
Unless your getting it on the cheap, I would`nt spend alot on it!!!!
Looks very nice, mainly the damast blade.
