Hi Guys, this one came into work today. As the dagger was loose and had been clearly taken apart before and recently, I stripped it down for these pics.

A mix of good and bad parts in my opinion. I like the scabbard, but the pommel and crossguard eagle are poor. Grip is leather over a wood former.

Thoughts Gents please?

Ade Landzoll daggers have their own specific eagles etc. and Clemen is not like Hörster one that is often encountered.
I have seen 1 on a German site that is 100% exact like yours, although that doesnt say its an Original.
For now i can only give you a picture of that one ( it has been sold as an Original though).
The custom daggers certainly needs study for me , as im only familiar with the Hörster.

I agree with you that the scabbard looked period. What is it about the pommel & crossguard specifically that you don't like? The Landzoll dagger I have is a later period Hörster with aluminum fittings & it looks nothing like your Clemen & Jung which I think was produced earlier than mine.

I can see what it is that Ade is objecting to with this piece and have to say that I am inclined to also agree. The leaves on the pommel are Extremely poorly made-almost to the point of being bizarre in appearance, and the Feathers on the guard eagle-particularly on the Chest are incredibly crude. When compared to the example that Gerrit has shown, this dagger looks like a poorly executed copy that seems to employ some period parts-such as the sheath, although I am perplexed by the discolored lower ring mount. I certainly could not envision a German official accepting and carrying such a piece.

You raise an excellent point about the lack of definition in the pommel. One thing I've seen with Landzoll daggers is a wide disparity in terms of quality & definition in the parts, ranging from really well done to downright awful.

Ade, could you post a closest shot of the right side up of the pommel? Thanks!

Hi Billy: sadly I don't have any more pics. You can click on them to enlarge them if that helps? It was the sheer crudity of the crossguard and pommel that put me off. The dagger has now gone back to the owner.

Hi William, the lower crossguard had been subject to damp in one area I think and it had lifted the plating and the dark colour is old rust.

Just an observation..is the image provided below that is circled in orange an area of concern,,. as this tang appears to have been rewelded?..is this a common sight for this type and also Heer and Luftwaffe type blade tangs ?? Regards Larry

Hi Larry, I don't think so, as the other side has the cross marking.

It did exhibit the billet clamp seam.
