Hi Brad, I have edited and merged the two threads together.
Mate, sorry, you need to send this back and get a full refund. It is bad as all the others have said.
Cheers, Ade.

The first thing I noticed right off was the word "Division" and the Germans had several meanings for the word. "Abteilung" would come closest. Below is a list of varied meanings of the German word division. As all above stated try to get a refund as it is a nice attempt at adding this etch. We do appreciate you bringing it here for a discussion. Below is the list of German translations for "Division"
Division
division
Teilung
division, partition
Aufteilung
division, split, partition, differentiation
Abteilung
department, division, section, unit, compartment, office
Spaltung
cleavage, division, split, splitting, fission, schism
Trennung
separation, division, segregation, distinction, parting, partition
Einteilung
classification, division
Liga
league, division
Aufgliederung
breakdown, division, analysis, differentiation, categorization
Uneinigkeit
disagreement, discord, dissension, division
Abtrennung
separation, detachment, partitioning, division
Trennwand

Correction Gents, as I am just waking up and the coffee is cycling throughout my body. A few Period posters come to mind concerning the word Division. In some circumstances the Word Division is seen connected to the word Panzer...."Panzerdivision" and other instances not. Below is a recruitment poster for the Hermann Goring Division,,although it is not SS related,,as I apologize if my above post may have misled anyone. Regardless any etching is very difficult to discern in photos. ......More coffee!!

To the owner sorry about buying a faked etch piece, the maker on other side of blade is 43 or 44asw?, when 43 so no such problem (the photos of same side are repeated), by 44asw would be damaged grey ghost piece, which is about 500 USD worth or more, the alu rivets is not a czechoslovak configuration, but certainly postwar upgrade, the etch were done in early 70ies in UK by "Bayoking" as normal bayonets were too cheap for sale. The etched one was better mainly the SS Divisions, Division is larger unit incorporate 2 or 4 Regiments. Anyway by 43asw should be probably wood grips there so the piece is not in original condition too.best regards
As has been said the story is just that and the bayonet is a postwar etching. There's some good threads on the old GDC forum on etched bayonets, real and fake. I'd suggest you study those carefully before buying any etched bayonets. Your seller also probably knows its bad, hence the deceased vet story.
if you look on the SOLDIER OF FORTUNE web sight ,you will see many of these for sale
they are ruined k98 combat bayonets
cheers ian
I have not seen too much information on etched bayonets are there actually authentic TR era etched bayonets? Or are they all postwar modified?
Ben
There are plenty of etched bayonets from the TR era but not this model.
If you have a look on this page [selected at random from a Google search] you will some examples.
German Third Reich Army Heer Short Dress Bayonets
I should point out that I have very little knowledge so I hope all the examples shown are genuine.
Should be enough to give general idea of what etched bayonets look like.

Richie
Thanks for the info some reason I did not think any were authentic maybe because so many turn out to be fakes, ans that the real ones seem relatively rare.
While the dress models of etched German bayonets are in fact also faked, they tend to be re-creations of period bayonets. And for reworking period originals it's a lot more work to strip off nickel plating, etch the blade, apply new nickel plating, and then reassemble the bayonet. Which is not to say that it has not been done before - but normally with motifs other than the "SS" ones. And the selection of SS units for fakers is also more limited because they quit making dress models entirely before many of the units were even formed.
And I'm certain that Andy is correct. But that is what I tend to think of first because that is what I was told a number of years ago when I saw my first one, and I still do when I see an aluminum side rivet. Not that it matters because as he says there no doubt that they are postwar. Also having been told at one time or another East Germany it would be nice to know for certain so I can erase my old memory and replace it with some facts. Best Regards to All, Fred
