Article about: Yeah, Mercator as a brand is legit. Somebody just ruined a knife sticking those pooh fake TR markings on there. The brand has exsisted since the late 1800s. Its believed, that these were for
I agree, but when you want to find the difference, you must to have this type of reproduction in hand... there is nothing better than hand inspection of item... and maybe then you can find difference on photos... I never had this portepees in my collection, so I really can´t find nothing
Those portepees look convincing but there is one thing they still can't fake. It is the "flat" appearance of the threads of the portpepee that is the result of wear. I always look for this when I want to be sure a portepee is original. Here's a picture of what I mean by "flat".
The fail proof way to find a bad portepee is to shine a UV light on the white cotton beneath the cord. If the white shines like the north star, you know its a bad'un.

My God!!..the hanger is very good but not good enough..the other items have been faked very well.
To the type collector..you can see right through them as being fake..but to the novice..it is up to us to point them in the right direction..and also up to them to read and study.
Thankyou Vedran for posting this..it is quite nasty to look at...and yet "VERY SOBERING" a great addition to this thread Best Regards Larry
