Thanks a lot Larry I'm glad you did not misunderstood my post. As TR edged weapons is not my field at all (even i have a LW 2nd pattern) i don't know what kind of info is "over the top". I am sure you have that figured of course I just wanted to give a reminder and a heads up on the issue of helping the bad guys.

    Regards, Lars

Hello, I just aquired this dagger from someone who said he had received it from a German officer during WWII, and I was wondering whether it was real or a replica.
I'm only worried about the hilt being something other than wood. But I've seen some pictures of genuine works with handles that do not look like wood either, hence the doubt.

If it were real, any idea how much it'd be worth?

    Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't say this one is perfect but this navy dagger will certainly fool many new collectors.

And here's another very well made fake navy dagger. You can see these were made to deceive because they have been artificially aged very professionally.

When I started collecting navy daggers I thought there were no fakes of this type. Well, it didn't take long before I bought myself a real fake When I found this out I was very disappointed. I got the best advice a new collector can get: before you start buying daggers, first buy reference books! At the beginning I found these reference books too expensive but after I spent more than 500 euro on a fake, I quickly changed my opinion
I also started to save pictures of fake daggers on my computer to be able to learn what to look for and recognise a fake dagger.
Here is another navy dagger that I found on the internet a few years ago. This is a very well made fake too!

dr73: I would certainly be fooled by the daggers you put up here. I am new to collecting, could you just give a hint on what is wrong with the ones above? How can I spot a real from a fake when I have never held a guaranteed real one in my hands?

Under a keen eye that collects these types there are some details more obvious than others. I can say a mix of period and some junk! This one is a scary movie...near to almost perfect!

Thats the beauty of a forum that has experts on every branch....some are totally into the Marines, others prefer Heer etc..
Just be sure to post a dagger in the forum when your not familiar enough to buy it.....

    Nice add's Danny!
