That's an interesting little commemorative sword. We'll wait for one of our German speakers to translate the text but the symbolism on the hilt, (including what appears to be a coronation of the Prussian eagle) is quite descriptive.

    The inscriptions roughly translate as:

"We reach out the iron for manly defense. We give the weapons to the forces under arms.
In the forge's blaze, in the fire's gush, the master's hand briskly forms the ringing steel."

"You welded Germania's sword in the elements, you created for us the Empire honored in the universe,
wrapped an iron band around all of Germany. Welcome, you who have forged the Empire, to the Bergisches Land"

The Bergisches Land is a region within the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, east of the Rhine and south of the Ruhr. It's named after the historical Duchy of Berg. Many manufacturers of edged weapons, knives and cutlery were and are located there (the city of Solingen is located in this region, too).

    The dedication refers to Bismarck.
