    Hi, i recently came into possession of several portepee. One of them is rather unique, as it has a cord as opposed to a strap as well as a strange looking bottom. i was wondering if any of you know this portepees original purpose, as well as the reasons for its peculiar appearance.

    It's for Imperial navy dagger IMO

    thank you! do you know what the red and black in the strap might symbolize? Would it be to differentiate different companies and battalions, or the naval equivalent of such?

    It's a Black ,Red and White, National Imperial colors.
