Spring is around the corner..within 2 weeks..and a reminder to check your storage cases...containment units...some use socks....for those who store them away for the cold season..or rainy season in other countries not prone to cold.
Also check your display cases and cabinets..if still displayed for dust..and unwanted black marks possibly on your blade. Take the time..and give History a coat of Renaissance Wax.
Inspect the scabbards..inside and out for those who store their daggers outside the scabbard..and check your wood for dryness and cracks. Check the tension of a tang nut if applicable.
As weather begins to get warmer certain doors in my home tend to expand..into the frame..the same for daggers that have wood content.
Also watch the use of an air conditioner if the room temperature is not regulated..this will dry out wood for sure and crack it.
Check all leather accoutrements..and leather applications on scabbards if any.
Wipe down cabinets and display cases windows with the use of a spray foam window cleaner. This will not streak unlike the blue stuff we see in bottles. The use of Pledge wax..is also advisable to remove dust from the wood part of your cabinets and displays. You have seen what happens to mirrors and windows in homes from pressed noses and finger prints 
Lastly..please be aware of new visitors..who may want to see these priceless works of craftmanship up close..and want to touch it. This is the owners responsibility to set the standard of respect for history. Finger prints are an edged weapons greatest enemy regardless of any protectant application applied on a blade. Take nothing for granted and take the extra step.
Those who just went to the Show of Shows now is the time to protect and preserve history. Regards Larry

Its that time again..as noted above...that we need to closely view our edged collectables ,,for dust corrosion..forgotten finger prints.... and that cancerous rot that happens from inside the steel which manages to surface to the top of the blade..as seen throughout this thread. Take note of any cloth accoutrements..for moth nips. Check leather straps and hangers for dry rot. Google " Neets Foot Oil " ..and not used for feet but a natural derivative that coincides with the leather coming from the same animal.
Ren Wax of course ..and mainly some attentive TLC wiping down with a dry cotton cloth..and knowing that this periodic procedure must be implemented. We are caretakers of these artifacts..and only few are chosen to be trusted with its survival. It should never be about the money or its worth..money comes and goes..but mainly its purpose never to forget the History it represents.
Those who seriously delve into this hobby with preservation on the forefront are the " Chosen " . Dont be fooled,. not everyone can do what we do..and not everyone can understand why we protect these things that came from a dark time,,, no more than any us being something we are not or not able to perform. There is a purpose for everyone in life..and those of us in this realm of purpose..we are Museum curators of History. Keep moving forward Gents !! We are doing a wonderful work !! Regards Larry

Larry I have the same cancer issue on a blade looks very very similar to what happened to your wkc here.
Did you use simichrome on it to reduce the blackness or is there nothing that can be done?
