Sad looking police

Hi Chaps, saw this today. Bought back by a XXX Corps vet. It's been sawed though both sides & then snapped!! Sad to see.

Can anybody tell me the unit marking details?

Nothing unusual in case of wartime trophy.
War trophies are often deliberately damaged, to show the victories.

I have taken notice to the stag grip itself,,it appears to have a round dark circle close to the crossguard. What is that?.... and why are the grip rivets so shiny looking.Regards Larry

The dark circle is from where the grip was shortened after Hitler and the Nazi's took control of the government and reworked and reissued the Police bayonets. It is one of the old rivet holes that was filled in. The clamshell was removed, the blade was shortened and the grip was also cut down,etc. The rivets are shiny, naturally, as they were installed to fasten the newly shortened grip panels.

Larry, C.E. police bayonet are used aluminum rivets.

Thanks for the reply's chaps. The rivets are indeed aluminium on the handle. The bayonet was bought back by a British soldier. Brits were not allowed to bring 'weapons' back to the U.K. by the authorities & often ditched them before they came home. I can only think the blade was removed so he could bring back a souvenir, Cheers, Richard.
