Thanks a lot for the very insightful comments! I am not sure of its authenticity however it does seem to match the "crudeness" of other Civil War era items (for whatever that's worth). In the flea markets in Moscow I have seen quite a few resembling budenovki that were indeed replicas used during parades and this could indeed be one of them. Quite a strange piece all in all but you are right. It is certainly an interesting one
