Hello people. I have just bought this helmet, and I really don't know why as I collect American helmets mainly. It just looked like a "been there" helmet. I have no idea what it is, other than possibly Russian. There are ink stamps but they are badly worn. I cannot see a star under the brim.
Any information would be gratefully received.
Kind Regards,
Andy
PS, it cost me £30.00.
Edit: I have spotted a date that looks like 194?

Please, try to make a picture to date precisely the helmet.
Hello, Dom.
I can only really see it under the loupe, it really does look like 1940, the 19 is larger than the 40. I will try to get a pic tomorrow, the light is fading here.
Best Regards,
Andy

I think, after looking at the date stamp with the loupe that it is in fact 1940. My camera is not capable of taking such a macro shot.
Some questions.
If the chinstrap has been replaced, what chinstrap is it?
Why is there a replacement pad in there, and why would have the helmet have been modified in that way?
Just dumb newbie questions really, but I do like this thing.
Kind Regards,
Andy

It was the chinstrap that made me believe it was a postwar Czech lid, so I'd suggest that origin for the strap. If it's WW2 Soviet then £30 was a great investment mate.
