Another fantastic Lid Lars to add to your soviet helmet collection.thanks for showing.............Jake.
Thanks Jake. Not a bad one at all

Yes, Typical blockade rebuild. The liner make up and chin strap are indicative of this. Seems all these helmets (Ssh-39s) are 39 and 40 dated early examples. There are also similarly lined Ssh-36 as well. Very nice Lars... many blockade helmets are not in this good condition.
Thank you Mike. It even have the full name in the dome of one of the previous wearers.

Were the rebuilds used in the Winter War? I've heard this story; the Soviet troops took the liners off from their helmets during the Winter War, so that they could wear something warm under the helmet.

Yes. The Ushanka was often used under the helmet

It must have been quite bad yes
Theoretically it could of course. It's "Leningrad Blockade" helmet and Leningrad was not far from Finland. During the blocked they used all materials possible to rebuild helmets. This is why it's a bit different from factory made helmets.

The stamp seems like 1940, which would have been before the blockade. The helmet could have been made during the Winter War era and the new liner installed into it, during the Great Patriotic War.
